What Entry Compliance Means
Every vehicle imported into New Zealand has to be checked, certified, registered and licensed before it can legally go on the road, this process is called entry certification, or entry compliance. It's a requirement set by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, not an optional extra.
At 4Guys Autobarn, applicable imported vehicles complete VTNZ entry compliance before they're offered for sale. VTNZ is one of a small number of agencies approved by NZTA to carry out this certification, alongside providers like the AA, VINZ and Drivesure.
What the Inspection Covers
An entry certifier checks that a vehicle's original manufacturing meets New Zealand's safety, emissions and frontal impact standards, then physically inspects its current condition to confirm nothing has changed that. They also record details like fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, weight and the vehicle's identification numbers, and flag anything that needs repair or further certification before the car can be registered.
Once a vehicle passes, the certifier issues a registration application (form MR2A) along with a warrant or certificate of fitness, the documents that confirm it's legally safe and eligible to be registered for New Zealand roads.
Manufacturing Standards
Verified against NZ's required safety, emissions and frontal impact standards for the vehicle's original build.
Physical Inspection
A hands-on check of the vehicle's current condition, identity details and whether any repairs are needed.
Certified for Registration
A pass results in an MR2A registration form plus a warrant or certificate of fitness.
