Buying to order means we go and find that exact vehicle in the US on your behalf, rather than you choosing from whatever happens to be in stock.

The Short Answer

Buying to order means telling us the exact vehicle you want, including make, model, trim and any must-have options, and we search the US market to find one that matches. Once it's found and purchased, it goes through shipping, compliance and registration the same way any imported vehicle does. It generally takes longer than buying a car already in New Zealand, but it means you end up with the specific vehicle you actually wanted rather than compromising on what's available.

The vehicle goes through entry compliance and registration, then it's ready for you to collect or have delivered.

Timeframes and What to Expect

Buying to order takes longer than buying a car that's already in New Zealand, simply because the vehicle has to be found, purchased and shipped before anything else can happen. Sourcing and shipping alone typically takes a couple of months. If the vehicle also needs a right-hand drive conversion, that adds further time on top, since a normal conversion generally takes around 8 weeks once the car has arrived.

We'll give you a realistic timeframe once we know the specific vehicle and whether a conversion is involved, so you know what to expect from the outset.

  In most cases, yes. If it's out there and it's a vehicle that can be legally imported and complied for New Zealand roads, we can generally source it. Talk to our team about the specific make and model you have in mind.
• How long does it take to buy to order?
  It varies depending on how easy the exact vehicle is to find and whether it needs a right-hand drive conversion. Sourcing and shipping alone typically takes a couple of months, and a conversion adds further time on top of that.
• Do I need to pay for the whole car upfront?
  We'll walk you through the payment structure for a buy-to-order purchase when you get in touch, since it's a different process to buying a car already on our yard.
• Can I get finance on a car bought to order?
  Yes, in most cases. Finance is available through our lending partners, including UDC Finance, Finance Now, Marac Car Loans, MTF, Oxford Finance, Avanti Finance and CFS Finance, subject to lending criteria and the specific vehicle.
• What if I'm not sure exactly which model or spec I want?
